The date in 53.B.1 indicates that this is the work Puccini composed as part of the final examination of the academic year 1882-1883, i.e. the conclusion of his studies at the Milan Conservatory.
In I-Mc, there is an additional leaf with the same shelf mark (paginated as “1” in a different handwriting), but there is no doubt that it belongs to 54 (see 54.B.1).
