84.E.1
First Italian edition:
Il Tabarro — Suor Angelica — Gianni Schicchi.
Riduzione di Carlo Carignani.
Copyright 1918, later also 1919.
Ricordi, Milan etc., 1918.
PN 117000, 403 pages (+ pp. 189bis and 190bis), 4°.
According to MRL, the plate number for the edition was established on 10 March 1917. The complete edition, prepared for the first performance on 14 December 1918 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, was ready in September of that year (see Carteggi 1958, no. 731, of 4 Sepember 1918). It was printed in October (as shown on the blind stamps), and Puccini received a copy by the beginning of November (see I-Mr, Carteggio Puccini-Clausetti, no. 104). However, the sales copies were only printed from 31 December 1918 (MRK states “1919,” but that is obviously an error).
In Suor Angelica, the edition already contains Puccini’s late expansion of the aria “Senza mamma,” for which pp. 189/190 were supplemented with pp. 189bis /190bis.
This was probably the version of the New York première.

84.E.2
Second Italian edition:
Copyright 1918, 1919.
Ricordi, Milan etc., 1919.
PN 117000 with additional PNs 117404, 117406, and 117408 for the individual operas, 403 pages (the individual operas also have an additional separate pagination), 4°.
Announced in Musica d’oggi of June 1919, 32.
This edition incorporated the changes Puccini made for the first Italian performance on 11 January 1919 in Rome and includes other minor corrections in view of the second Italian performance in May 1919 in Florence. The edition apparently was published shortly after that performance.Note: *A copy Puccini dedicated to Sybil Seligman was also dated in June 1919 (see the catalogue of Sotheby‘s auction of 28/29 May 1992, no. 622). MRK gives 31 July 1919 as date of printing, probably for the sales copies.
In MRL, the PNs 117404, 117406, and 117408 appear only with the date of 1 June 1921, although they were used already much earlier; the date certainly indicates the beginning of production of separate editions.

84.E.2a
First German edition:
Der Mantel — Schwester Angelica — Gianni Schicchi. Arrangement von Carlo Carignani.
Copyright 1918, 1919, 1920 (the first page of music of each opera states: “Copyright 1920”).
Ricordi, Milan etc., 1920.
PN 118097 with the additional PNs 118098, 118099, and 118100 for the individual operas, 377 pages (the individual operas also have an additional separate pagination), 4°.
Announced in Musica d’oggi of February 1921, 63.
MRL records 29 November 1919 as the beginning of production.
The first performance in German took place on 20 October 1920 at the Vienna Staatsoper. This edition was obviously produced in view of that performance, and apart from a few publisher’s errors, it agrees with 84.E.2.
