)Score of the complete work for voice and piano, consisting of 10 pages, 2° with 12 staves.
On the first page in Puccini’s hand: “Inno a Roma / GPuccini / marzo / 1919 / Sadun / lo vuole / lo prenda! [If anyone wants it / they can have it!]” On p. 5 (from the words “Sole che sorgi”) below the vocal line Puccini notated a parallel “Canto banda”, but later cancelled it. At the end, the manuscript is signed and dated: “Giacomo Puccini / 28 marzo / 1919” and “Torre del Lago / GPuccini”, with the crossed out autograph remark: “Fine dell’Inno a Roma con relativo strapazzo però [End of the Hymn to Rome, but with relative strenuousness]”.
The manuscript contains several corrections and occasionally differs from the published version (90.E.1), particularly in that it was written one tone lower (in G flat major, not in A flat major as in 90.E.1). Furthermore, there is only the first verse of the text and Puccini wrote the beginning twice.
It seems that this was Puccini’s first (and only?) notation of the music.

Manuscript copy for voice and piano, with no indication of instrumentation, formerly owned by Alessandro Vessella. On the title page, Puccini noted a series of suggestions to Salvadori for modifications to implement in the verses to adapt them to the meter ("per il metro [for the meter]"), some of which are also reflected in the music. From the final bar of p. 7, a brace of two staves is also present for the “ Squilli” part.

According to Sonzogno, the first edition was published in March 1923 (see Morini, Ostali, and Ostali jr. 1995 II, p. 684; for additional corroboration, see also Puccini’s letters to Maria Bianca Ginori-Lisci in Critica 1976, No. 52 and the registration date of US-Wc).
The erroneous title and plate number were corrected in the later Sonzogno editions (see Copies 5-10).
