Appendix I.7. Sketches for I due zoccoletti
Notes
Currently, only this sketch for the Zoccoletti is preserved in I-TLp. However, two sketches are mentioned in No. 71 of the official Inventario degli oggetti e dei cimeli pucciniani conservati nella Villa Puccini di Torre del Lago of May 1952, which lists “Due appunti musicali per l’opera ‘Zoccoletti’." The same documents are also listed on p. 51 of the Inventario [dell’] Archivio Puccini in Torre del Lago of 1980, as “appunti musicali per ‘Gli Zoccoletti’, 3 fogli [3 folios]”; however, they are missing from the Inventory of 1992.
The Zoccoletti project, based on the novel entitled Two Little Wooden Shoes by the English author Marie Louise de la Ramée (who wrote under the pseudonym of Ouida), occupied Puccini intensively from 1911 to 1914; see Schickling 1989.
